WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is reportedly working on introducing new features to its iOS app. According to details shared by a feature tracker, users will soon be able to customize the theme accent of the app. Additionally, WhatsApp is testing a sticker editor feature, which could eliminate the need for third-party sticker apps. Although these updates are currently available on the beta version of the app, they are expected to roll out to the stable version in the near future.
WhatsApp has recently made changes to the appearance of the iOS app by adding a green tint to certain parts of the interface. However, in an upcoming update, users will have the option to choose from a selection of five theme colour accents. These accent colours will be applied to various elements of the user interface, such as message counts, status updates, selected tabs, and buttons. The existing blue accent will still be available, along with options for WhatsApp’s green accent, off-white, pink, and purple. It is important to note that selecting a new accent colour will only update the app’s main branding colour.
In addition to the customizable theme accent, WhatsApp is also testing a sticker editor feature. This new addition, available on the latest beta version, allows users to edit existing stickers by tapping on them and selecting the “Edit Sticker” button. Furthermore, users will have the ability to create their own stickers directly within the app using the “Create Your Own” button. The sticker editor also includes a feature that lets users remove backgrounds from images on their phone, making sticker creation even easier.
While the new sticker editor is currently being rolled out to beta testers, it may take some time before the customizable theme accent picker becomes available for testing. The feature tracker suggests that it is still in development. However, considering WhatsApp’s commitment to maintaining feature parity between iOS and Android platforms, these updates are expected to make their way to WhatsApp for Android as well.
