Friday night’s NBA Rising Stars game was filled with excitement as Bennedict Mathurin, the Indiana Pacers guard, stood out as the hometown hero. The teams competed in semifinal games, with a target score of 40, before advancing to the final match, which required reaching a score of 25. In the final showdown, Team Jalen, led by Mathurin, dominated the game, securing a 26-13 victory with a lead established by back-to-back 3-pointers from Jordan Hawkins and Jalen Williams.
This win marked Mathurin’s second victory in the Rising Stars event, having previously been part of Team Pau in 2023. Despite missing crucial free throws in the semifinal, Mathurin redeemed himself with a clutch turnaround jumper that sealed the win for his team. Reflecting on his performance, Mathurin shared, “I saw some shots going in, and I knew it was over. Being in my city, I felt the responsibility to bring the victory home, and that motivated me to give my best.”
While Victor Wembanyama and Team Pau faced defeat in the semifinals, the experience was valuable for the young player. Despite an impressive individual performance with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks, Wembanyama couldn’t lift his team to victory. Looking ahead, Wembanyama expressed his excitement about participating in the Skills Challenge, highlighting his determination to succeed in future endeavors.
As the Rising Stars game concluded, G League Ignite forward Matas Buzelis, who showcased his talent and potential as a 2024 NBA Draft prospect, celebrated his team’s victory.
