The search for 19-year-old British teenager Jay Slater, who went missing almost two weeks ago in Tenerife, has been described as a “massive search” that is set to commence in the coming days. The Civil Guard, along with volunteer associations and individual volunteers, are stepping up their efforts to locate the missing apprentice bricklayer.
According to the Civil Guard, the search for Jay Slater will begin at 9am in the village of Masca, close to his last-known location. The terrain in this area is described as rocky, abrupt, and full of unevenness, with numerous ravines, paths, and roads, making it a challenging search environment. The collaboration of volunteer associations, such as firefighters, and experienced individuals is being sought to ensure the search is directed and coordinated effectively.
Cafe owner Ofelia Medina Hernandez reported seeing Jay Slater at 8am on June 17th, attempting to catch a bus back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos. She mentioned that he seemed disoriented and was walking in the wrong direction. This sighting provided some insight into his movements after leaving a small Airbnb in Masca.
A friend of Jay Slater, Brad Hargreaves, shared details of his last video call with the missing teenager. During the call, Hargreaves observed Slater’s feet sliding on rocks, indicating that he was not on a road. Slater also mentioned being in a remote location, far from his intended destination, and expressed a lack of concern despite the difficult circumstances.
Search teams organized by the Civil Guard have deployed helicopters, drones, and search dogs to comb through the mountainous regions of Tenerife in the hopes of finding Jay Slater. Despite extensive search operations, including the use of advanced technology and trained personnel, the teenager has not been located.
The ongoing search for Jay Slater in Tenerife reflects a collaborative effort involving law enforcement, volunteer organizations, and concerned individuals. The challenging terrain and the lack of concrete leads have made the search operation arduous and complex. As efforts continue to locate the missing British teenager, the hope remains that he will be found safe and reunited with his loved ones.
