In September 2023, Apple unveiled its much-anticipated iPhone 16 series, comprising the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to statements from Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail, the technology giant is set to inaugurate additional retail locations in key urban areas. After the successful launch of its first two stores in Mumbai and Delhi, which have reportedly achieved significant sales milestones—accounting for over 20% of Apple’s revenue in India—Apple’s expansion strategy includes new outlets in Bengaluru, Pune, and a second store in Mumbai. This retail expansion underscores Apple’s strategic intent to enhance its brand presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets.

Apple’s local manufacturing is not merely a corporate strategy; it is also robustly supported by the Indian government. Reports suggest that approximately $14 billion worth of iPhones were assembled in India in 2023, contributing about 14% to global production. This aligns with governmental initiatives aimed at boosting local manufacturing and creating job opportunities. By diversifying its production base from China to India, Apple is not only mitigating manufacturing risks but also adhering to local policies favoring indigenous production.
