The Excitement Builds: Realme Teases Upcoming Smartphone Launch in India

Realme, the Chinese electronics manufacturer, has got smartphone enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation as it prepares for a slew of new smartphone launches in 2024. While a recent debut of the Realme C67 5G in India has already generated considerable excitement, Realme India has now revealed that an update on an upcoming phone is imminent. As speculations run rampant, fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of either the Realme 12 series or the Realme GT 5 Pro, which was showcased in China last December.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Realme India shared an update on the morning of New Year’s Day. The post playfully encouraged users to stay tuned for the “real update,” with January 3 at 7.30 AM IST potentially being the moment of revelation for an as-yet-unnamed handset. While the company refrained from divulging any specific details or teaser images in their post, Realme did invite users to take a guess at what the update could be about.

Industry insiders and smartphone enthusiasts alike have been abuzz with their own theories. A popular speculation is that the update post may allude to the forthcoming launch of the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+, which were recently spotted on the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) website. The TDRA listing, featuring model numbers RMX3842 and RMX3840, confirmed the monikers for the upcoming smartphones and indicated that they would possess 5G connectivity capabilities. Moreover, the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro+ also made an appearance on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, further hinting at an imminent launch in India. To add fuel to the fire, the high-end Pro+ model was reportedly spotted on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification site, leaving fans hopeful for a global release.

While the Realme 12 series is generating much enthusiasm, the excitement is compounded by Realme’s recent teaser of a flagship smartphone featuring a periscope camera. The teaser, which appeared on X last week, suggests the imminent launch of a device with enhanced zoom capabilities in India. Although no specific details were provided in the teaser, tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) reposted the image, claiming that the device in question would be the highly anticipated Realme 12 Pro+. Yadav also speculated that the release of the phone is likely to occur by the end of January or in the following month. Additionally, the Redmi 12 Pro+ is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, belonging to the Snapdragon 7 series chipset.

Adding another layer of complexity to the mix, the Redmi 12 Pro+ teaser might also be related to the Realme GT 5 Pro. This Chinese handset, launched on December 7, has already dazzled consumers with its impressive specifications. Some of the standout features include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 1.5K resolution display boasting a remarkable 144Hz refresh rate, and a triple rear camera led by a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor. The base variant of the Realme GT 5 Pro starts at CNY 3,298 (approximately Rs. 40,000). However, Realme has yet to confirm a timeline for the phone’s release in India.

Amidst the rampant speculations and eager anticipation, Realme’s upcoming smartphone launch in India has got smartphone enthusiasts eagerly waiting for more details. Whether it turns out to be the highly awaited Realme 12 series or the impressive Realme GT 5 Pro, one thing is for certain: Realme is poised to deliver yet another smartphone experience that is sure to captivate the Indian market.
