The Black List and Stowe Story Labs: Empowering Emerging Screenwriters

The Black List and Stowe Story Labs have joined forces to establish a groundbreaking fellowship that provides opportunities for emerging screenwriters. This collaboration marks the first of its kind between these two esteemed organizations. With a shared commitment to identifying and fostering talented individuals in the industry, the partnership aims to extend their reach by enabling a selected Fellow to attend the prestigious Stowe Narrative Lab.

The Black List Artist Development Fellowship offers a remarkable chance for emerging screenwriters to gain valuable experience and exposure. To qualify for this fellowship, applicants must have a feature or TV project and submit their applications before January 15th at 11:59 PM PST. One application covers all Stowe labs, retreats, fellowships, and scholarships, streamlining the process for the applicants.

The chosen Fellow will be granted a full workshop experience during Stowe’s Narrative Lab, set to take place in Stowe, Vermont from June 7th to 10th, 2024. Moreover, the Fellow will receive financial assistance in the form of a travel and lodging stipend of up to $1,500. This support aims to alleviate any financial barriers that might otherwise hinder aspiring screenwriters from attending the event.

In addition to the Stowe Narrative Lab, the selected Fellow will also benefit from a 30-minute consultation with Stacey Davis, an Entertainment Attorney, Stowe Alum, Mentor, and Board Member. This one-on-one session will provide invaluable insights and guidance to further enhance the Fellow’s creative journey.

Tailored Development Opportunities

To facilitate the Fellow’s growth, the program offers two distinct development options. Depending on their unique needs and aspirations, the Fellow will either enroll in a long-form online writing program (film or TV) or participate in a personalized one-on-one mentoring program with the Stowe team. This tailored approach ensures that each Fellow receives the support and resources best suited to their individual development.

A Shared Mission

David Rocchio, the Founder and Director of Stowe Story Labs, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are so pleased to be partnering with The Black List on this fellowship. Stowe and the Black List share a common goal of discovering and nurturing new voices that can captivate audiences and shape the world through storytelling. Together, we will work towards achieving this mission.”

Expanding Opportunities

The Black List Fellowship and Stowe’s advanced development fellowships are groundbreaking initiatives that started in 2024. These development fellowships will be awarded to two artists, granting them the unique opportunity to attend a 2024 Narrative Lab, engage in an ongoing mentoring program, and participate in a 2024 Writers’ Retreat, all at no cost. Additionally, the selected fellows will also receive a travel and lodging stipend, further removing financial barriers that may hinder their advancement in the industry.
