The Atlanta Falcons have announced their new head coach, Raheem Morris, marking a significant shift in the team’s coaching strategy. Owner Arthur Blank has taken a bold step by hiring Morris, who becomes the first former NFL head coach to join the Falcons under Blank’s ownership. This decision comes after an extensive search that included several notable candidates such as Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, and Jim Harbaugh. Ultimately, the Falcons chose to return to their past with Morris, who previously served as Atlanta’s interim coach in 2020. Despite the team’s initial decision to hire Arthur Smith, Morris has now been given the opportunity to lead the Falcons as their full-time coach.
Raheem Morris brings a wealth of experience to his new role as the Falcons’ head coach. Prior to joining Atlanta, Morris served as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 2021. This will be Morris’ second stint as a full-time NFL head coach, having previously held the position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011. Before his time in Tampa Bay, Morris had various coaching roles, including a position with the Washington Football Team as the defensive backs coach. He also had previous involvement with the Falcons, serving as their receivers coach and assistant head coach from 2016 to 2019.
With the Falcons’ coaching carousel finally coming to a halt, Raheem Morris now faces the task of rebuilding and revitalizing the team. He inherits a defense that features standout players like Jessie Bates III, A.J. Terrell, and Grady Jarrett. On offense, Morris will have the opportunity to work with exciting skill-position players such as Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Tyler Allgeier.
