Texas A&M Defensive Line Coach Terry Price Passes Away at 55

Texas A&M has announced the death of Terry Price, one of the most respected defensive line coaches in the SEC, at the age of 55. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Price, an alumnus of Texas A&M, returned to his alma mater as a defensive line coach in 2012 under Kevin Sumlin. He remained in that position under Jimbo Fisher, the current head coach. Prior to joining the Aggies’ staff, Price served as a coach at Ole Miss for seven years and at Auburn for 10 years.

Fisher stated that Price was not only a skilled football coach and recruiter but also a loving husband, father, and individual. He went on to say that Price’s impact on the team and his players was incalculable. Price was known not only for his exceptional coaching but also for his outgoing personality and barbecuing skills. He personally manned the smokers for his D-line cookout each year.

Price was renowned for his recruiting ability. He signed and coached players like Myles Garrett, who went on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, as well as Justin Madubuike and DeMarvin Leal at Texas A&M. He also coached Quentin Groves, who set Auburn’s all-time sacks record.

With Price’s assistance, Texas A&M led the SEC in defense in 2020 and ranked third overall in rush defense, finishing the season at No. 4.

Price was recruited from the Dallas region by Jackie Sherrill and R.C. Slocum, the defensive coordinator. He played for both head coaches and was named to the All-Southwest Conference team in his senior year. After two years in the NFL, Price returned to Texas A&M in 1992 and worked as a graduate assistant for Slocum while finishing his degree.

Slocum, who has known Price since he was a senior at Plano High School, stated that Price was a special player and coach who would be missed by all who knew him. Price is survived by his wife, Kenya, and two sons, Alexander and Devin, who both graduated from Texas A&M this month. Devin, who played wide receiver for the Aggies for three years, recently announced that he would be transferring to FAU to finish his football career. Fisher stated that the team would continue to keep Kenya and the boys in their thoughts and prayers.
