Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett’s daughter dies in drowning accident

Shaquil Barrett, linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, suffered a devastating loss on Sunday when his 2-year-old daughter, Arrayah, drowned in a swimming pool at their home in Tampa, Florida. The Buccaneers released a statement expressing their condolences and support for Barrett and his family during this difficult time.

Investigation ongoing

Tampa Police Department received a call just before 9:30 a.m. ET that a child had fallen into a pool. Law enforcement arrived at the scene and transported the child to a local hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The police are conducting an investigation, but currently believe the incident was purely accidental and not suspicious in nature.

A talented athlete and devoted family man

Barrett, who is entering his fifth season with the Buccaneers, has been named to the Pro Bowl twice and led the NFL with 19.5 sacks in 2019. He is not only a talented athlete, but also a devoted family man with three other children. The youngest of the Barrett family, Arrayah’s passing is a tragedy that has shaken the entire Buccaneers family and the wider NFL community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, his wife Jordanna, and their children during this unimaginably difficult time.
