Samsung to Release Galaxy Watch 6 Series with Upgraded Chipset and Battery

Samsung is set to release its latest Galaxy Watch 6 series later this year, with rumors suggesting that the South Korean tech giant may host another Galaxy Unpacked event in the second half of 2023 to unveil new products. Leaks and reports have already given some insight into the features and specifications of the upcoming devices, including a faster and more powerful chipset.

According to a report by SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch 6 series models will be powered by a new Exynos W980 system-on-chip (SoC) that is expected to be 10 percent faster than the Exynos W920 SoC that powered the previous Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series of smartwatches. The company is also expected to use its newer 5nm process, which could improve the battery life of the Galaxy Watch 6 series.

Previous reports suggest that the Galaxy Watch 6 40mm model may come with a larger 300mAh battery compared to the 284mAh battery used in the Galaxy Watch 5 model, while the 44mm variant may have a 425mAh battery. The Galaxy Watch 6 series is also expected to feature a larger 1.47-inch display panel with better resolution and screen-to-body ratio compared to its predecessor.

Design Features of the Galaxy Watch 6 Series

The Galaxy Watch 6 Pro is expected to bring back the physical rotating bezels feature, which will likely only be available on the Pro variant. The base version of the smartwatch is expected to retain the digital bezel from the Galaxy Watch 5 lineup. In addition, earlier leaks suggested that the Galaxy Watch 6 will have a curved glass design.

While Samsung has not yet confirmed much about the upcoming wearables, rumors suggest that the tech giant has filed for a patent that would allow it to integrate a projector in some of its future Galaxy watches. However, it is unlikely that this technology will be available in the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Overall, the Galaxy Watch 6 series is expected to feature several improvements in terms of performance and design over its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 5.
