Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy Z Flip 5 in July, and as the launch date approaches, new details of the foldable smartphone are emerging online. The Korean tech giant aims to compete with Apple’s dominance in the smartphone market by introducing some significant upgrades to the Galaxy Flip 5.
Always-On Display Functionality
According to well-known Twitter tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have iPhone 14 Pro-like always-on display functionality. The feature, currently available on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, allows users to customise the display on their handsets to some extent. With this feature, the phone could dim the lock screen while still displaying time, widgets, and wallpaper.
Apple introduced its always-on display feature to the iPhone with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last year. The functionality can operate with a refresh rate as low as 1Hz with a new low-power mode. Once the user locks the handset or leaves it idle, the feature dims the entire lock screen wallpaper while still showing the date, clock or any widget. AOD also allows users to hide wallpaper and disable notifications.
Other Features and Specifications
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to debut with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options and in beige, gray, light green, and light pink colour options. It could run on One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13 and is said to be powered by a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon for Galaxy SoC, coupled with at least 8GB of RAM. The phone is expected to come with a 3.8-inch cover display and support 25W wired charging.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also rumoured to sport a dual rear camera unit with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter. These features are aimed at offering users a better camera experience.
Samsung is set to challenge Apple’s dominance in the smartphone market with its Galaxy Z Flip 5. The phone is expected to come with an always-on display functionality similar to that of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Additionally, it will have a range of other features and specifications, such as a 3.8-inch cover display, 25W wired charging support, and a dual rear camera unit, to offer a better user experience. With these upgrades, Samsung hopes to attract more customers and compete with Apple in the highly competitive smartphone market.
