Realme, the Chinese electronics brand, is preparing to release a new flagship smartphone in India featuring a periscope zoom camera. While the exact details about the upcoming device have not yet been confirmed, Realme has shared hints through a teaser on various social media platforms. The smartphone is rumored to be the Realme 12 Pro+ and is speculated to be the successor to the Realme 11 Pro+ that was launched in July. The teaser showcases the rear portion of the device with a ring and carries the tagline “No Periscope. No Flagship,” indicating enhanced optical zoom capabilities.
Although Realme has not officially announced the moniker, tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) has reposted the teaser image and claimed that the Realme 12 Pro+ will be launched by the end of January or in February of next year. It is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chipset, most likely the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. The device is also rumored to feature a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. It is speculated that the Realme 12 Pro+ will be positioned in the mid-range smartphone segment, with an approximate price of CNY 2,000 (roughly Rs. 23,000).
If the Realme 12 Pro+ is indeed the successor to the Realme 11 Pro+, customers can expect significant improvements in terms of camera capabilities and overall performance. The Realme 11 Pro+ made its debut in India in June, priced at Rs. 27,999. It boasts a 200-megapixel triple rear camera setup and is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC. The device runs on the Realme UI 4.0 custom skin based on Android 13 and is powered by a 5,000mAh battery. With the speculated specifications of the Realme 12 Pro+, it is evident that Realme aims to push the boundaries of smartphone photography and provide users with an enhanced zooming experience.
In the competitive Indian smartphone market, Realme faces fierce competition from other brands such as Xiaomi, Samsung, and OnePlus. The introduction of a periscope zoom camera in the Realme 12 Pro+ could give it an edge over its competitors, as optical zoom capabilities are highly sought after by photography enthusiasts. By offering this feature in the mid-range segment, Realme may attract a larger consumer base who are willing to pay a premium for advanced camera technology. Additionally, the launch of the Realme 12 Pro+ alongside the Realme 12 and Realme 12 Pro could further strengthen Realme’s position in the market and provide consumers with a wide range of choices at various price points.
Realme’s teaser for the upcoming smartphone with a periscope zoom camera has generated excitement among smartphone enthusiasts. While the exact details are yet to be confirmed, the rumored Realme 12 Pro+ is expected to offer impressive camera capabilities and powerful performance at an affordable price. With the launch of this device, Realme aims to establish itself as a leading player in the Indian smartphone market and cater to the evolving needs and preferences of consumers.
