Point Road Productions Announces New Slate of Projects

Point Road Productions, the production company led by filmmaker Billy Raftery and NBA legend Grant Hill, has announced a new slate of projects that includes an animated series, a video game, and a sports documentary. The company provides gap financing and development funds and is incubating a slate of socially conscious and character-driven documentaries and scripted projects set to launch in Q4 2023 and 2024.

Edo Ball Adaptation

As part of its new lineup, Point Road has acquired the rights to Andrew Archer’s Edo Ball, a graphic novel that blends modern basketball visuals with traditional Japanese art and aesthetics from the Edo era. The company is adapting the IP into an animated series and a video game. The talent involved in these projects will be announced in the coming weeks.

Nothing But Net Documentary

In addition, Point Road is releasing a sports documentary called Nothing But Net, which features NBA superstar Kevin Garnett and sports television personality Jay Bilas. The meta-cinematic approach of the film guides viewers through the lived experience of Angolan and University of Kansas 5-star basketball recruit Silvio De Sousa as a foreign Black man within the confines of college basketball and the U.S. justice system. The documentary is directed, written, and produced by Billy Raftery, with Garnett, Marc Levin, Mike Marangu, Todd Stiefel, John Sloss, Taylor Materne, Josh Foster, Rueben Schatz, and Anthony Killough serving as executive producers. The sales agent for the film is Cinetic Media.

Other Projects in Production

Point Road is also currently in production and post-production on several other films, including the documentary 2 on 5, directed by Alrick Brown (known for Spike Lee’s Little Joints: And of The Son and Sundance winner Kinyarwanda). The film is based on a high school basketball game in racially contentious, small-town Alabama, in which two Black players defeated five white players in overtime. Content Cartel is also producing the film with Point Road.

Previous Productions

Previously, Point Road Productions has produced several other projects, including The Maestro (Fox), Dr. Fandom (ESPN), With a Kiss (CBS/Turner), and Angels in Exile (narrated by Charlize Theron, Amazon).
