The National Football League (NFL) is investigating a player from the Indianapolis Colts for possible violations of their gambling policy. The team confirmed the investigation on Monday but declined to comment further. The player involved is believed to be Isaiah Rodgers, a cornerback and kick returner for the Colts.
The Allegations
Multiple sources familiar with the investigation have revealed that the player in question opened a sportsbook account under the name of an associate. They went on to place approximately 100 bets on the account, including bets on Colts games. Most of the bets were small, ranging from $25 to $50, but there was at least one low four-figure bet. Although the Colts declined to comment further, sources suggest that Rodgers is the subject of the investigation.
Response from the NFL and the Indiana Gaming Commission
When asked for comment, an NFL spokesperson said that they had “nothing to add” to the report. However, the Indiana Gaming Commission confirmed that they had received information on the matter and were following developments. They also stated that the NFL was the lead agency on this matter, as it involves alleged violations of a league policy.
Previous Cases of Gambling Policy Violations in the NFL
This is not the first time that the NFL has investigated players for gambling policy violations. In April, the league suspended five players, including four from the Detroit Lions, for similar violations. Two players from the Lions were suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games, while two others received six-game suspensions for betting on non-NFL games from an NFL facility. Another player, Calvin Ridley from the Atlanta Falcons, was suspended for the entire 2022 season for betting on NFL games over a five-game stretch when he was away from the team.
The NFL’s investigation into the Indianapolis Colts player for possible violations of their gambling policy is ongoing. Although the league has sponsorship deals with sportsbooks, players are prohibited from betting on NFL games and placing bets while at NFL facilities. The league takes these violations seriously and has suspended players in the past for such offenses. The Indiana Gaming Commission is monitoring the situation and will determine if any regulatory actions are necessary.
