The New York Jets will begin their 2021 season on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium and will mark the first Monday night appearance for coach Robert Saleh. The Jets last played a season opener at home in prime time on September 11, 2011, where they won against the Dallas Cowboys.
This year’s game is expected to be emotional as it falls on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Jets will be playing with added motivation and will aim to deliver a win to honor the victims of the tragedy.
With Aaron Rodgers now on board, the Jets are expected to be a hot ticket and receive several prime-time games. However, their first game on Monday Night Football against the Bills will not be an easy one. The Bills are the reigning AFC East champions and went 5-0 in prime-time games last season.
The game will feature a marquee quarterback matchup between Rodgers and Josh Allen. The head-to-head series between the two is currently tied at 1-1, with the Bills winning last season’s matchup against Rodgers’ former team, the Green Bay Packers.
The Jets have lost seven straight games in prime time, with their last win coming in the 2018 season opener against the Detroit Lions. The team will be hoping to break their losing streak and start the season on a high note.
Aside from their Monday Night Football matchup, the Jets will also play on the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game on November 24 against the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
Although the Jets have a tough schedule ahead of them, they are optimistic about their chances this season. With a new coach and a talented quarterback in Rodgers, the team is hoping to end their 12-year playoff drought and make a run in the postseason.
