The New York Jets have signed four former Green Bay Packers players, but coach Robert Saleh has dismissed talk of a wish list, stating that it is a “silly narrative” to suggest that quarterback Aaron Rodgers is behind the moves. Saleh has suggested that it is common practice for new faces to want old faces to help accelerate the installation of an entire program. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has expressed his interest in the four players, whom he knows from his time with the Packers.
The Jets have signed wide receiver Allen Lazard, quarterback Tim Boyle, tackle Billy Turner, and receiver Randall Cobb, who signed a one-year contract on Wednesday. Rodgers’ so-called wish list was reportedly shared with Jets brass at his home in Malibu, California, and included Lazard and Cobb, among others. Saleh noted that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did the same thing with Tom Brady, adding tight end Rob Gronkowski and wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Although Lazard and Cobb are on the Jets’ roster, there has been speculation about Corey Davis’ future with the team due to his injury history and high salary. However, Saleh has confirmed that Davis will remain on the team. In addition to Lazard and Cobb, the Jets also have Garrett Wilson, the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and newcomers Mecole Hardman.
Saleh has been impressed with Rodgers’ early impact, stating that he has never been around a quarterback quite like him. Rodgers has been participating in voluntary workouts to build chemistry with his new teammates and get acclimated to his new surroundings. Saleh has described Rodgers as having a fire in his eye and coming to the Jets to win.
Saleh has also hinted that the Jets may be interested in signing tight end Marcedes Lewis, who was also on Rodgers’ wish list. Although the Jets pursued Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency, he opted to sign with the Baltimore Ravens.
