Intuitive Machines, a lunar company based in Houston, Texas, is on the verge of making history with its upcoming mission known as IM-1. The mission aims to soft land near the moon’s south pole, marking the first American lunar landing since the Apollo era. With the spacecraft scheduled to touch down at around 6:24 p.m. ET, there is a significant level of anticipation surrounding this groundbreaking event.

Following the landing, Odysseus is expected to operate on the moon’s surface for up to seven days, conducting various maneuvers and experiments.
IM-1 marks the second mission under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, aimed at delivering science projects and cargo to the moon in support of the Artemis crew program. While Intuitive Machines is leading the charge for the United States in lunar exploration, other countries such as Japan have also made significant strides in landing on the moon.
