Gravitas Ventures has recently announced its acquisition of the North American rights to Fourth Grade, a comedy movie featuring William Baldwin, Teri Polo, Mena Suvari, and Ben Begley. The movie is set to be released in theaters and on demand in around 10 markets on July 14.
The film is written and directed by Marcelo Galvão from Brazil and is set in a prestigious Catholic elementary school. The story revolves around a principal and a drama teacher who call a meeting with the parents of fourth-grade students to discuss a concerning situation: a brick of marijuana has been found in the theater class. To protect the school’s reputation, they need to expel the student responsible for the weed.
The meeting is attended by 10 wealthy parents from Pacific Palisades, CA, and Eddie, an outsider whose daughter has just won a scholarship. After an intense discussion, the principal and drama teacher leave the room. Eddie promises to find a solution within one hour and save the day. However, accusations, intrigue, and insults ensue as the parents try to protect their own children.
In an attempt to calm things down, one of the parents proposes that they try a little of the weed themselves. This leads to the exposure of fragile and obscure secrets, and perspectives begin to shift. The weed problem is exposed as hypocrisy, and heartfelt truths and camaraderie blossom.
The movie also stars Boti Bliss, Challen Cates, Keli Daniels, Pamela Dunlap, Jamison Jones, and Roland Kickinger. It is produced by Galvão, Gabriela Kulaif, Giordano Biagi, and Caio Vecchia.
Galvão described Fourth Grade as a “hilarious comedy, featuring brilliant actors, that explores human relationships and provokes us to contemplate our own attitudes.” Meanwhile, Gravitas’ VP of Acquisitions and International Sales, Danielle Gasher, said that they are thrilled to be the North American partner for Fourth Grade. She added that the movie is funny and charming, and they are excited for audiences to see it in July.
Gravitas negotiated the deal on behalf of the North American rights to Fourth Grade, with Francesca Delise of Illmatic Film Group representing the filmmakers.
