The Google Pixel 8 series, consisting of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, made its debut on October 4, promising to be a game-changer in the smartphone market. Equipped with a powerful Tensor G3 chip and running on the latest Android 14 operating system, these flagship devices have already made waves. The Pixel 8 Pro, in particular, has recently earned the top spot in the DxOMark display test ranking, showcasing its exceptional visual capabilities.
Renowned YouTuber Jack, known as JerryRigEverything, recently conducted a thorough durability test on the Pixel 8 Pro. The smartphone was subjected to seven years’ worth of damage simulation, and the results were impressive. Boasting the brightest screen ever produced by Google, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the Pixel 8 Pro showcased its resilience. However, during the test, the power and volume buttons, made from recycled aluminum, proved to be easily removable with a knife. The side panels of the device suffered visible damage from scratches inflicted by the knife.
To highlight the differences in rear magnetic charging capabilities, the YouTuber placed the Pixel 8 Pro alongside the recently launched iPhone 15 Pro Max. Furthermore, the Google smartphone astonishingly features an infrared thermometer beside the LED flashlight. This unique feature enables the user to measure the temperature of objects up to a range of 2 inches, excluding humans. When exposed to an open flame, the Pixel 8 Pro obtained a permanent burn mark after 17 seconds. Despite the damage to the screen, the smartphone’s fingerprint scanner remained functional. In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro Max failed to survive the bend test, revealing its structural weaknesses.
Reminiscing its key specifications, the Pixel 8 Pro sports a large 6.7-inch Quad-HD display with a resolution of 1,344×2,992 pixels and an impressive 120Hz refresh rate. The device also houses a robust 5,050mAh battery, supporting 30W wired charging, ensuring prolonged usage without frequent recharging.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro has proven to be a durable and powerful flagship smartphone. Its exceptional display quality, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offers unmatched visual experience. The device’s structural strength, evident in the successful bend test, furthers its appeal. With its unique features like the infrared thermometer and rear magnetic charging capabilities, the Pixel 8 Pro stands out among its competitors. Google has indeed delivered a remarkable device that combines durability, performance, and innovation to elevate the user experience.
