The Star Wars franchise has always been known for its Jedi-centric storytelling, with lightsabers, the Force, and epic battles taking center stage. However, Ubisoft’s upcoming action-adventure title, Star Wars Outlaws, is aiming to shift the focus to a different corner of the galaxy – the world of rogue smugglers and scoundrels. Players will step into the shoes of Kay Vess, a Han Solo-like character, navigating through dangerous odd jobs and contracts in a fully explorable open-world setting.
During Ubisoft Forward, the publisher unveiled a 10-minute gameplay showcase of Star Wars Outlaws, giving players a glimpse into the immersive experience that awaits them. As Kay Vess, players will embark on a mission to Mos Eisley on Tatooine to track down a skilled gunslinger. The gameplay deep dive highlighted aerial and blaster combat, traversal and exploration, as well as the importance of interacting with experts scattered throughout the galaxy to enhance Kay’s skills.
Unlike previous Star Wars games that have focused on linear narratives or melee combat mechanics, Star Wars Outlaws promises a unique experience that allows players to roam through various biomes, interact with different factions and crime syndicates, and make decisions that will shape Kay’s journey. The game is set during the golden age of the underworld, offering players the opportunity to navigate through a world filled with danger, intrigue, and opportunities for both gain and loss.
The gameplay showcase featured Kay piloting her ship, the Trailblazer, through space, engaging in aerial combat with pirate starfighters, and infiltrating a warehouse controlled by the Hutt cartel in Mos Eisley. The emphasis on stealth, exploration, and decision-making sets Star Wars Outlaws apart from other titles in the franchise, offering players a chance to experience the Star Wars universe from a fresh perspective.
Star Wars Outlaws is set to release on August 30 for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5. Players who have a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription or preorder the Gold or Ultimate Editions will gain early access to the game starting on August 27. With its focus on exploration, combat, and storytelling, Star Wars Outlaws is poised to carve out its own space in the Star Wars gaming universe, offering fans a new frontier to explore and conquer.
