Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic Receives Technical Foul After Contact with Suns’ Owner During Game 4

During Game 4 on Sunday night, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic received a technical foul after an odd occurrence on the court. As the Suns’ Josh Okogie went into the seats to keep the ball in play, he ended up near Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia. Ishbia had the ball in his hands, and Jokic, attempting to get the ball, made contact with Ishbia. Jokic’s left elbow made contact with Ishbia’s chest, causing him to fall back into his seat. Despite the strange incident, Ishbia stated he was “fine” at halftime and more concerned about the game. Referees and Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon made sure tensions did not escalate, and Jokic received a technical foul, but remained in the game. The Nuggets were leading 55-54 at the time. Ishbia has been the Suns’ owner for a few months, having purchased a 57% stake from Robert Sarver for $2.28 billion. The Suns were able to tie the Western Conference semifinal series at two games with a 129-124 victory. The two teams will face off again on Tuesday night.
