Veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers is currently in the early stages of recovery from shoulder surgery. With his future in the game uncertain, Kershaw recently revealed that he has not made a decision regarding whether he will re-sign with the Dodgers. The player expressed that he is currently discussing his options with his wife, Ellen, before committing to his next move.
In an interview with AM 570 LA Sports, Kershaw explained that he is still “in that process” of making a decision. He humorously mentioned that the recent free agency signing of Shohei Ohtani allowed him more time to contemplate his own future in baseball. The veteran pitcher is a ten-time All-Star and three-time National League Cy Young Award winner, having stayed with the Dodgers since the beginning of his career in 2008.
Kershaw underwent shoulder surgery on November 3rd to repair the glenohumeral ligaments and his shoulder capsule. This shoulder injury had already sidelined him for six weeks in 2023 and affected his performance during the final months of the season. Despite these setbacks, Kershaw reported that he has been progressing well since the procedure. He expressed his excitement to return to the field and be able to throw without pain, aiming for a summer comeback.
Reflecting on his recent performance, Kershaw spoke about his desire to end his career on a high note. In Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he allowed six runs before recording an out. Determined to not let his career conclude in disappointment, the competitor in Kershaw wants to win another World Series before his retirement.
In light of the Dodgers’ signing of Shohei Ohtani, Kershaw shared his thoughts on the team’s acquisition. He described it as a “great” move for the Dodgers, while also acknowledging the significant financial investment. Kershaw recognizes Ohtani as a unique talent and believes he will bring valuable contributions to the team.
