Ben Schnetzer has been announced as the replacement for Rupert Friend in the upcoming film, “The Yellow Tie”, in which he will portray the young Romanian conductor, Sergiu Celibidache. John Malkovich has also been confirmed to play an older version of Celibidache. The film, directed by the conductor’s son, Serge Ioan Celebidachi, follows the true story of Celibidache’s extraordinary life and career.
The Life of Sergiu Celibidache
Sergiu Celibidache was a legendary classical music conductor and one of the most celebrated but also one of the most controversial artists of the twentieth century. The film will detail his life, from his childhood in Romania under the strict authority of his disciplinarian father, to his ambitious pursuit of a career in music, his struggles during wartime Germany and his rise, fall, and rise again in a career that spanned seven decades and all four corners of the globe. The film will showcase the artist’s battle against prejudice, compromise, convention and commercialism, as well as a man’s inspirational, lifelong quest to follow his dream and win the elusive acceptance of those closest to him.
Production Details
The Yellow Tie will be directed by Serge Ioan Celebidachi from a script co-written with James Olivier. Principal photography is set to begin next month in Bucharest, Romania. The film will be produced by Adela Vrinceanu Celebidachi, Cristina Dobritoiu, Andrei Boncea, Christopher Milburn, and James Olivier, with Robert W. Cort serving as Executive Producer.
Ben Schnetzer’s Career
Ben Schnetzer is known for his starring roles in FX’s apocalyptic sci-fi drama, Y: The Last Man, as well as Broadway’s The Nap. He has also appeared in films such as The Grizzlies, Goat, and Pride.
