Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, has sought assistance from former President Donald Trump to raise funds for a political action committee (PAC) that aims to cover his father’s growing legal expenses. The Giuliani Defense PAC has scheduled one of its initial fundraising events at Trump’s New Jersey golf course in September, with the former president as the featured guest.
The invitation, obtained by CNBC, states that donors are being asked to contribute $100,000 each to the PAC in order to participate in the event. As per the invitation, the event on September 7 will include a roundtable discussion featuring both Trump and Rudy Giuliani, followed by a dinner with Rudy Giuliani. According to a person familiar with the event, it is anticipated to have at least twelve guests and raise nearly $1 million.
Offering “cottage & golf opportunities,” the September event presents a chance for donors to financially benefit Trump’s properties. Notably, in 2008, Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign expended more than $53,000 to utilize a Trump golf course in Florida for an event. It is worth noting that Andrew Giuliani’s failed gubernatorial campaign treasurer, Robert Kiger, is also the treasurer for the Giuliani Defense PAC, as per Federal Election Commission records. The PAC, classified as a hybrid committee, can function as a super PAC without any donation cap.
In a recent court filing, Rudy Giuliani’s legal team acknowledged that he is encountering challenges in paying his legal fees. The attorneys stated, “He is having financial difficulties” and requested additional time and the opportunity to seek an extension from the court to settle the attorneys’ fees.
Andrew Giuliani, who previously ran as a Republican candidate for governor in New York, expressed his gratitude for President Trump’s agreement to headline two events: one in September at Bedminster and another during the winter at Mar-a-Lago. While declined to comment further, he did mention the strong interest from donors in attending these events.
The collaboration between Andrew Giuliani and former President Donald Trump to raise funds for the Giuliani Defense PAC demonstrates a concerted effort to address Rudy Giuliani’s mounting legal fees. With Trump’s involvement, these fundraising events hold significant potential to stimulate financial support, while also providing opportunities for donors to engage with the former president. Additionally, the utilization of Trump’s properties further underscores the financial considerations of these events. As Rudy Giuliani seeks extensions to settle his fees, it becomes apparent that financial difficulties are impeding his ability to cover legal expenses. Nonetheless, the fundraising efforts orchestrated by Andrew Giuliani highlight a proactive approach to managing and seeking support for his father’s legal battles.
