AMD made a significant announcement at its Computex 2024 event, introducing a new lineup of processors aimed at catering to the growing demand for artificial intelligence applications. The company showcased a total of six new chipsets, including four Ryzen 9000 series processors designed for gamers and heavy workloads, as well as two Ryzen AI 300 series chipsets tailored for AI computing tasks.
The Ryzen AI 300 series marks AMD’s foray into the realm of AI processing, with the introduction of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the Ryzen AI 9 365 CPUs. These chipsets are powered by AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture and feature integrated GPUs and Neural Processing Units (NPUs). The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 boasts 12 high-performance Zen 5 cores and 24 threads, with a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz. It comes equipped with Radeon 890M graphics and a 36MB cache. On the other hand, the Ryzen AI 9 365 features 10-core Zen 5 cores, 12 threads, a max clock speed of 5.0GHz, Radeon 880M graphics, and a 34MB cache.
XDNA2 Architecture
In addition to leveraging Zen 5 architecture for the CPU, AMD incorporated the XDNA2 architecture to develop the NPUs powering AI experiences for desktop users. Both chipsets boast impressive processing capabilities, with 50 Tera operations per second (TOPS) capable NPUs. These innovations are set to redefine the performance standards in AI computing and elevate user experiences to new heights.
Ryzen 9000 Series
Alongside the Ryzen AI 300 series, AMD also unveiled the Ryzen 9000 series chipsets, comprising the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs. The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X leads the pack with 16 high-performance Zen 5 cores, 32 threads, 80MB of L2+L3 cache, a base clock speed of 4.3GHz, and a max clock speed of 5.7GHz. These processors are targeted towards gamers, promising high frame rates, smooth gameplay, and enhanced performance across a variety of AAA and esports titles. Additionally, AMD claims that the processors will deliver accelerated 3D rendering, animation design, and product visualization, catering to the diverse needs of users.
Both the Ryzen AI 300 series and Ryzen 9000 series chipsets are scheduled for release in July, with the Asus Vivobook S 15 and HP OmniBook set to incorporate these processors in upcoming systems. The upcoming Copilot+ PCs showcased at Microsoft’s Surface event will also feature these cutting-edge chipsets, providing users with a glimpse into the future of computing. However, AMD has chosen to withhold pricing information for these chipsets, leaving consumers eagerly anticipating further details.
