Amazon India has taken a unique approach to expand its last-mile delivery programme, “I Have Space”, by announcing the launch of its first-ever floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. The company aims to provide faster and more reliable deliveries to customers across Srinagar while creating opportunities for small businesses and strengthening Amazon’s delivery network.
The floating store concept is an innovative solution to cater to the specific needs of customers residing in houseboats on Dal Lake. Murtaza Khan Kashi, owner of the houseboat Selec Town, has been enlisted as a delivery partner for Amazon. He will deliver packages directly to the doorstep of customers’ houseboats, ensuring convenience and efficiency in the delivery process. This unique initiative demonstrates Amazon’s commitment to going the extra mile to meet customer demands.
By partnering with local stores and small businesses through the “I Have Space” programme, Amazon has created a strong network of 28,000 neighborhood and kirana partners across 420 towns and cities in India. This partnership allows Amazon to deliver products within a 2 to 4 kilometers radius, ensuring quick and efficient deliveries. The expansion of this programme to include the floating store on Dal Lake will further empower local businesses in Srinagar, creating economic opportunities and boosting the overall delivery network in the region.
The Success of “I Have Space”
Since its launch in 2015, the “I Have Space” programme has gained significant traction, with thousands of partners joining across India. Amazon prides itself on offering a hassle-free onboarding process, allowing anyone to become a part of the programme without requiring any investments. The partners play a crucial role in handling the last-mile delivery, receiving packages at their store locations and delivering them to customers. In return, they receive payment from Amazon based on the number of packages they successfully deliver.
Being an “I Have Space” partner comes with its perks. On average, partners can deliver between 20 to 30 packages a day, earning a fixed amount per delivery. This offers a stable income opportunity for local entrepreneurs looking to venture into the delivery business. Additionally, joining the programme enables partners to take advantage of Amazon’s extensive customer base and logistical capabilities, further enhancing their business growth prospects.
The Way Forward
Amazon’s introduction of the floating store is yet another example of the company’s commitment to customer-centric innovation. By addressing the unique delivery challenges faced by houseboat residents in Srinagar, Amazon has shown its ability to adapt and cater to diverse customer needs. As the “I Have Space” programme continues to expand, more individuals and businesses will have the opportunity to leverage Amazon’s logistics expertise to scale their operations and contribute to a more efficient and reliable delivery ecosystem.
Amazon India’s launch of the first-ever floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar is a significant step towards enhancing last-mile delivery. This initiative not only improves the convenience and efficiency of deliveries for customers residing in houseboats but also creates new opportunities for local businesses. By continuously innovating and expanding its “I Have Space” programme, Amazon is solidifying its position as a leader in the e-commerce industry while empowering individuals to grow their entrepreneurial ventures.
