A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with three alleged assaults at an independent school in Tiverton, Devon. The incident, which took place on Friday, left two teenage boys and a staff member injured.
Suspect and Charges
The suspect, who remains unnamed due to legal reasons, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of GBH with intent. He will be remanded and appear at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Police Investigation and School Response
Officers were called to the school building at around 1am on Friday, following reports of a serious assault. The two teenage boys, who are both students at the school, remain in hospital. One of them is in critical condition, while the other is in a stable but serious condition. The injured staff member has been discharged from the hospital.
Commander Superintendent Toby Davies has stated that the police are continuing to support the injured boys and their families, as well as the wider school community. He also reminded the public not to speculate on the identity of the victims or the suspect.
The school’s headteacher, Bart Wielenga, has assured parents and guardians that the incident was isolated and that there is “no ongoing threat or concern”. He also offered support to pupils affected by the incident.
Blundell’s School, which is a mixed school, charges £41,325 a year for senior boarders and over £28,000 annually for those in years seven and eight. Some of its notable alumni include Ben Collins, who is believed to be the face behind Top Gear’s The Stig, and reality TV star Georgia “Toff” Toffolo.
The police investigation is ongoing, and a scene guard remains in place at the school.
